DBA has testified at several trials involving contested wills and estates. Long ago, we worked on the Howard Hughes wills for George Barnes & Associates. In 2015, we successfully testified over several days that the witnesses to the will of a major estate never existed, a bold definitive declaration that necessarily came under fierce challenge. Two days of testimony on the extent of our data knowledge and analytical ability resulted in a decision on all issues in favor of our client.
When elderly persons change their wills at the last moment, leaving estates to live-in caretakers or sudden new spouses, DBA often gets brought in by attorneys for the disinherited family members to investigate the influences and appropriateness of the will change. DBA also works for some of the busiest probate administrators in Southern California. DBA has assisted in finding heirs in numerous instances where there was no will and initial efforts by administrators failed.

An elderly woman with diminished mental capacity was evicted from her home of fifty years for non-payment of about $1500 in property taxes. She became homeless, with no known heirs or resources. It was later revealed, after the county sold her home at auction to satisfy the small lien, that $400,000 remained which belonged to her. But, there was a one year statutory limit to make the claim. There was one week left, and we were hired by the County to find this woman who had an extremely common name, and about whom nothing was known. Our search for her took us through the homeless communities of the San Gabriel Valley, the aid organizations, churches, all neighbors, nearby businesses, etc. With one day left, we found her and she received the $400,000.
A missing schizophrenic son suddenly contacted his father, one of our corporate clients who lived on the east coast. The son had called from a local payphone. The father had a vague address for that phone. We dropped everything, found the homeless street-person son, who thought he was on a strange mission, and babysat him for 24 hours until family arrived. For another Beverly Hills couple, every several years or so we re-find and report on the whereabouts and circumstances of their impaired, homeless adult son.
